Mares & Foals
We would like to thank each and every buyer and bidder--we couldn't do what we love without your continuing
support.  We will continue to strive to produce horses with  kind dispositions and the good looks to go with it.
We will do all we can to maintain your confidence and trust because we value you as customers and friends.
Please feel free to call us if you have specific questions regarding our breeding program; we are here to help
you! 320-239-4962 late evening or 320-808-8163 cell during the day.
Our broodmare band is primarily foundation bred. We are sticklers for conformation (I am a "head" person--I
have never seen a beautiful headed horse with no brains!) and disposition. They are kind to work with and
around, most of them you can walk right up to in the pasture to catch. Nearly all are broke to ride as we
believe you can be more comfortable purchasing a foal when you know the capabilities of the dam. As we have
recently expanded and purchased several mares, not all of them came to us broke...but we are working on it!
Some of the Quarter horse mares are for sale--inquiries welcome...see also the sale page link.
Photos follow. A table with brief pedigrees can be found at the bottom of the page.
Jo Jos Valley Queen         2001 Blue Roan Mare
Jo Jo is one of the most productive mares in our band.  A little more compact than some of our mares, she has
been a notable favorite of some of our visitors.  For 2011 she has come up with a beautiful doe-eyed bay roan filly
that should produce just as well as she does.
JoJo 003.JPG (874656 bytes)
Kings Miss Sunny        2002 Black Mare
Sunny has been a super producer for us. She has a fancy gelding in New York (three shows in
spring 2009--3 Reserve Champions!), a pretty red roan in Montana and a grey filly on her
resume. Sunny slipped a foal in February, but her two-year-old is here, looking beautiful and still
for sale.
Sunny.JPG (290962 bytes)
Kings Roan Queen             2002 Bay Roan Mare
Candy's lineage includes Easter Gentleman, Blondies Dude and Hayden Wano as some of the
more productive sires in her pedigree.  Candy had a stillborn foal this spring.
Candy 001.JPG (1009278 bytes)
Peppers Irish Spring        2002 Black Mare         FOR SALE $1500
Spring is probably the prettiest all-around mare, conformation-wise that we have. Easter Gentleman and Truly
Truckle are the legends in her pedigree. Spring has her best foal yet, a buckskin by Fancy Cut Diamonds. This
foal has muscle all the right places and should be able to put a cowboy horseback.
4 L Lady Jackie             1996 Grey Mare           FOR SALE $1200
Jackie is a pretty mare that is producing well for us. Sun Frost and Jackie Bee are the ancestors
helping make her a super producer. She has a 5-year-old stallion by The Shine (Shining Spark)
that topped the spring 2007 Twin Cities sale, selling for $13,000 to Texas.  This is the third
cross with JB and we got something a "little different!" This cremello filly is put together as good
as they come--she will stand out in any crowd.
Jackie2.JPG (1322092 bytes)
Cookye is one of those "exceptional" mares. Though she isn't our prettiest to look at, she is
worth her weight in gold. As just a four-year-old , she raised her own foal to six weeks old when
we lost a broodmare to a uterine hemmorage. Cookye didn't miss a beat and fed her "new" baby
just like it was hers. Then 6 weeks later we lost another aged mare. Cookye adopted her baby
too! Raising three foals as a young mom....not just exceptional....extraordinary! She is also
broke to ride and spent a fair amount of time one fall (2005) herding sheep. She was re-exposed
to Mr. Shine 403 for 2011 and she didn't disappoint us...she has a beautiful bay filly.
IN MEMORY   Black Neva    2000 -2009
Neva kind of started our little horse expansion adventure as a Christmas present to me from
Dale in 2005. When I first saw her, I thought she was the prettiest little mare I'd ever seen. We
had some memorable moments getting to know each other as she was not very trusting. She
came around to our way of thinking, though, and raised three gorgeous babies. The individual
who started her said she was one of the quickest mares he'd ever been on and he was interested
in breeding her to his stallion because of her abilities. We never got the chance, though.  We lost
Neva this past winter to a bizarre illness. We are thankful we kept her 2008 filly as a
replacement. If there are horses in heaven, I'm sure my Dad is enjoying her now--he loved
riding black horses! Neva, thank you for your contribution to our adventure and may you play
in the prairies of heaven--we miss you.

Smokes Lassy Lady        1994 Sorrel Mare         FOR SALE $1000
Prior to our purchase, Lassie nearly died from a badly infected wire cut. We babied her back to
health...and I do mean babied! She was so ill that we had to literally help her get up for about
three weeks. She carried (still can't believe it!) a foal through her ordeal and has now produced
three very nice babies for us. Take a look at the notable greats in her pedigree: Smokey Duster
Two, The Ole Man, Watch Joe Jack and Chubby Poco Dell....all on her papers! She is a big,
beautifully put together mare that is a favorite with one of our good friends. Lassy,
unfortunately slipped a foal early in 2011.
Hayden's Flossie          1993  Black Mare           FOR SALE $950
Flossie is one of our prettiest mares and is a consistently good producer. Her foal from 2006 will
enter our stallion battery next year. He is kind and easy to get along with and has great
conformation. Watch for his photo on the stallion and/or young stock page. Flossie has some
greats in her pedigree including Hayden Wano, The Flying Saint, The Ole Man and Showdown
Rick.  Flossie crosses beautifully with Rush; her yearling replacement filly is outstanding and this
bay stallion is a knockout. Muscle to burn and one of the best headed colts we have.
Flossie1.jpg (1313825 bytes)
Bloo Kingberry          2002  Blue Roan Mare
Bloo is a young mare with a promising future. She is a big mare with a powerful hip and a very
pretty head. Bloo was exposed to Fancy Cut Diamonds for 2011 and what a good decision that
turned out to be! Her buckskin colt will be noticed wherever he goes! (Picture coming soon!)
Queen Jessamun          1996  Black Mare           FOR SALE $1200
We have three of her daughters in our band, (Kings Roan Queen, JoJos Valley Queen, and
Miss Dudes Princess) with a fourth in the young stock pen. This mare continues to outproduce
herself and this year's sorrel filly is no exception.
Queenie.JPG (349532 bytes)
LJSR Raven        1999 Black Mare
Raven is proving herself an excellent producer, just like her mother. Flicka produced 13 black
foals for me, all exceptional individuals. While Raven hasn't seen a lot of riding, I rode her
mother many many miles and could do anything with her.  Raven's palomino filly by JB
cements my decision that she needs to stay out west...what a terrific cross--see for yourself!
raven.JPG (1385364 bytes)
"Kay" is one of those kind mares that is in your hip pocket all the time. She is probably the best
bred mare we have on the place with Peptoboonsmal, Freckles Playboy and Peppy San Badger
all on her papers. Combined with our signature sires, Hayden Wano and Fancy Red Bark on
the dam's side, she has potential plus! She did a nice job with her first foal, a grey filly by Keen
Shine. Kay slipped a foal early in 2011.
Black Isabella        2000 Black Mare
Izzy is a big, solid, top-notch brood mare. She has foals in Indiana, South Dakota and New
York. Excellent conformation and nice dispositioned. See the foal archive for her history.
Isabella has produced a black stallion by Fancy Cut Diamonds....a colt who will get noticed and
have the performance pedigree to back him up.

Russs Little Puff             2005 Black Mare
This cute little mare threw her. We have plans to start her and make her a kids horse--the
perfect size and put together just right--time will be the determining factor whether that
gets done or not. She has at side a beautiful little bay roan filly by Sterling.
LJSR Scoria Road             2004 Red Roan Mare
Scoria for web.JPG (1312490 bytes)
Scoria participated in the county 4-H show in 2007 after only a dozen rides--she behaved
admirably for our 10 year-old in the crazy environment of fairs. We were very proud of both of
them! I saddled her up this spring and she rode off like a seasoned veteran--a tribute to the kind
dispositions and trainable minds we strive to produce. They don't come any more docile than
this mom--that is Brady (11) and Kyerra (7) enjoying a soft seat! Scoria's 2010 foal is either
blue or red roan (jury's out yet) with a keen head and big hip and the sweetest disposition you
can put on one.

Another mare we purchased in Lapke Quarter Horses near dispersal. We have watched

well built foals. Tia was exposed to Fancy Cut Diamonds for 2011 and has produced a
strapping sorrel filly...she should put someone horseback. (Photo coming soon.)

Buckskin filly by
Fancy Cut Diamonds
Candy's 2009 foal, CA Licorice in
May of 2010. He sold in our 2009
sale to Kahl Quarter Horses
Rapid City, SD
Fencer has what I believe is going to be a red roan stallion. Long lines with a very nice
head and neck, he might be stallion material.
This mare originated on my home ranch, the Lazy JS Ranch. She is by signature sire, Fancy
Red Bark who was used there for nearly 20 years and out of my brother, Logan's, all-time
favorite mare, Jilla St. John. Lapke Quarter Horses purchased her as a foal in 1995, used her
for a broodmare for many years and and we re-purchased her in their near dispersal in August
2009. We exposed her to Fancy Cut Diamonds for 2011 and she produced a nice bay roan
stallion. If he changes as much as her last year's colt, he will be special!
This mare was started under saddle last summer and came along beautifully. She has done a
tremendous job with her first foal, a sorrel stallion by Mr. Shine 403. Big enough to do what
needs to be done and look good doing it! This young mare was quiet all sale day...didn't get
ruffled at anything....outstanding!

Dame Edna Marie        1995 Black Mare     SOLD!
Poco Hontas, Edna's mother, was raised on my home ranch out of one of the finest mares we
ever owned. LJSR Poco Hook shares the same dam and there are at least two daughters still on
the home place. Edna has a strong heritage and produced a nice bay roan gelding in 2006
(pictured below) that is for sale private treaty. Our daughter showed him in 4-H this year as a
4-yr-old and did all the western events and games. His half-brother can be seen here showing
beautifully in New York.

Eyes of Blackberry         1990  Black Mare       SOLD!
With a little age under her belt and two daughters on our place, we regretfully offer Blackberry
for sale. She is a gigantic mare that passes all the right stuff onto her babies. She has a sweet
disposition and loves attention
. Blackberry came up open in 2010.

LJSR Shamrock            2005 Red Roan Mare
Shamrock is developing into a beautiful filly. She might not be terribly big...but she is put together right
and as sweet as they come. She has been started under saddle and after only a handful of rides, she was
sent out to ride with a novice rider. She behaved admirably!
Shiney Satyn         2005 Black Mare
Satyn was my pick of all of the fillies in the Lapke Quarter Horse production sale in 2005. My
dad always said to "keep some of the best ones" and "buy some of the best ones." That's what
we did! I had the good fortune of being able to briefly ride Black n Shiney and it was like a dream
come true; soft, responsive and kind, a real tribute to Shining Spark and I am confident would
have gone on to do great things in the show ring, had he not been injured and had to be put down.
Two Time Tyree is one of the prettiest mares at Lapkes...and I am fussy! This filly is going to be
a real gem!
