4-H Horse Training
Incentive Program
We have several goals in mind  with the 4-H Horse Training Incentive Program. First and foremost is to
Quarter horse. We also want them to have the opportunity to be a part of the one of the best youth
development organizations in the country, 4-H. 4-H builds lifelong skills that will serve a young person
well their entire lifetime.

Therefore, we have developed a 4-H Horse Training Incentive Program.
If you are a youth in grades 5-10 who would be interested in showing a horse at your local county fair
in the 4-H Horse Training and Achievement classes, you are encouraged to submit an essay for the
4-H Training Incentive Program. You do not have to have previous experience with horses, but must
possess a desire to learn.

A young untrained horse (foal or yearling to four years) will be provided (leased) to the winning youth.
The youth in turn, agrees to show the horse in the 4-H  training events for two years, after which time
the horse will do one of the following: a) revert to our possession, b) we will negotiate an extended
lease or c) the horse may be available for purchase at our discretion. You will be responsible for the
feed, care and associated expenses during the lease period. We will expect quarterly progress reports
as to the condition of the horse, vaccinations given and training accomplished. We will be available for
coaching and advice whenever sought. If it appears the horse is not being cared for or is being trained
with inappropriate methods, we reserve the right to terminate the lease. If you do not have a place to
keep a horse, we would consider boarding your leased horse for a negotiated fee.

Essays should include:
1) Why you are interested in this opportunity
2) How you would care for your horse
3) What kind of training methods you would use and where you would acquire this information
4)  How you will promote 4-H and all horse events
5) Any additional shows or events you would plan to attend
6) What skills you would  hope to develop as a result of this opportunity

The 2012 opportunity will be available to youth who reside in anywhere in Minnesota. Youth in Pope,
Stevens, Douglas, Swift and Stearns Counties in west central MN and who would show in the Pope,
Stevens, Douglas, Swift or Stearns County Fairs will receive first consideration--if there are enough
applicants, we would consider two awards--one for the five county area and one for the extended MN
area. Applications are available by clicking:
Application  and will be due by February 15.  They may
be submitted to
nadacarter@carteracres.com.  Winners will be notified.
